WELCOME BABY: A year-long home visiting
program that provides mentoring
and
support for new mothers. Each new mom is paired with an experienced
mother who acts as a mentor, friend, and parent educator throughout
the first year of the infant's life. Welcome Baby is supported
with funds from Wake County
SmartStart, an organization that ensures young children are
healthy and prepared for school and life.
THE NURTURING PROGRAM: A 30-hour family education
program for families with children ages 4-12. Parents learn positive
discipline techniques, develop appropriate expectations for their
children based on their developmental stages, increase their empathy
and enhance their anger management skills. Parents and children
attend together.
CRIANZA CON CARIÑO: A 30 to 35-hour family
education program for Spanish-speaking families who have
children
between birth to 5, and/or children 4-12. Parents learn positive
discipline techniques, develop appropriate expectations for their
children based on their developmental stages, increase their empathy
and enhance their anger management skills. The birth to 5 Crianza
Con Cariño program is supported with funds from Wake
County SmartStart, an organization that ensures young children
are healthy and prepared for school and life.
PLUS (Parents: Learning, Understanding, Sharing):
A 20-hour program that helps families develop the skills to effectively
communicate with each other, to successfully manage anger and encourage
cooperation, and to build loving family relationships. A storysharing
activity group is provided for the children to enhance self-esteem
and develop literacy and interpersonal relationship skills.
FUNNY TUMMY FEELINGS: An interactive presentation
that teaches first-grade students the skills they need to protect
themselves from physical and sexual abuse..
MENS PROGRAM (Men Engaged in Nurturing Strategies):
A 20-hour program for fathers who are mandated to parenting classes
from domestic violence court.
CIRCLE OF PARENTS: An ongoing weekly family education
and support program for parents and their children co-led by trained
professionals and parents. SAFEchild program graduates who seek
additional opportunities to learn and grow as parents can participate
in Circle of Parents. At no cost, participant families experience
a non-judgmental and confidential environment for sharing common
parenting challenges, successes, and discipline strategies as children
develop. Circle of Parents is supported with funds from Duke Endowment.
