SAFEchild's Commitment Award

Introduction

 

The SAFEchild Commitment Award will be awarded to a past board member and/or program volunteer who has demonstrated:

  • A sustained and deep commitment to the SAFEchild mission of preventing child abuse in Wake County by helping adults and children create nurturing environments free from abuse and neglect.
  • The importance and value of volunteers and who has led the agency to significant accomplishments.

 

Criteria

The Commitment Award is designed to recognize truly exceptional devotion to the SAFEchild mission. Only former Board members who have served at least a single 3-year term or a past or present volunteer associated with the agency for at least 3 years will be considered for the Commitment Award. He/she must have:

  • Contributed time, effort, and commitment on behalf of SAFEchild
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting and motivating others
  • Contributed to the variables that define success for a particular SAFEchild program and program participants. (Based on specific outcomes of the program the volunteer was engaged in).
  • Exhibited a high quality of leadership and organizational ability.  (In fundraising campaigns if a board member or in leadership and creativity if a programs volunteer.)
  • Enriched the lives of others over a period of time
  • Promoted the SAFEchild name and mission in the community.

Nomination Process

The Executive Committee will solicit nominations of eligible candidates each fiscal year during the month of February.  The Commitment Award nomination can be submitted by current or past Board members or current agency staff.  The Award may be made annually; however, an award need not be made each year. 

An effective nomination will include the nomination form and two typewritten pages or less that describes:

  • The professional and organizational history of the nominee with an emphasis on his/her SAFEchild Board or volunteer career; how the individual has exhibited exceptional leadership and effectiveness, noting key innovations and achievements;  how the individual provided leadership and how the individual helped to promote SAFEchild in the community. (See attached nomination form).

Selection Process

 

  • Nominations will be reviewed and rated by the Executive Committee.
  • Three recommendations for the winner will be brought to the full Board.
  • The Board will apply the highest standards in considering nominees. 

              

Naming the Winner Process

 

  •   Winners of the 2010 Commitment Award will be announced on April 24, 2010 at SAFEchild’s Take A Seat in Monte Carlo event.           
  •   The winner will receive a phone call from the Board president followed by a letter and an invitation to the presentation.
  •   A press release will be sent to print and broadcast media and will be posted on SAFEchild’s web page.
  •   If the nominee approves, a letter announcing the award and signed by the executive director and the Board president will be sent to the winner’s employer.

 

Presentation of the Award Event

 

The Commitment Award will be presented at an appropriate public gathering of SAFEchild volunteers and friends.  Examples include the Chair Auction, the Building Happy Childhoods luncheon or other special, public events in the life of the agency.

  • When the nominations will be open – January, 2010
  •  Deadline for nominations – March  15, 2010
  •  Announcement of winner – early April, 2010
  •  Location where announcement of winner will be made – “Take A Seat” event in April 24, 2010
  •  Press release to go out to media – May, 2010
